The Panasonic W5 is an awesome ultralight, and the lightest notebook on the market with a 12.1" screen and integrated optical (DVD-RW) drive. (The previous record was held by its predecessor, the Panasonic W4). Helped by a novel drive design (the surface of the chassis opens for a disc), the Panasonic W5 weighs only 1.19 kg and measures. 268 x 210.5 (24,9 front) x 44,3 (mm)

You may ask what special about this Panasonic W5 compared to other notebooks. Using magnesium alloy for the body material and with extra protection shock for the HD, the Panasonic W5 is very durable and tough. It is designed to pass a one-foot drop test! Moreover, Panasonic claims that the battery can last for 8 hours (approximately 5 hours for real-world usage)!

The W5's 12.1" XGA TFT is larger than any similarly equipped rival. And, using the same 19mm keypitch keyboard (as with the Panasonic T5) gives the computer the largest keyboard in the sub-3 pound space. The circular touchpad allows uninterrupted scrolling. The W4 has a fanless design for serene computing.
